We serve the entire Coachella Valley of California including: Palm Springs, Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, La Quinta, Indian Wells, Coachella, Desert Hot Springs and surrounding areas.
Celebrate Women’s Right to Vote— Support September 19 “Main Event” for Senator Boxer
August 26 is the 90th Anniversary of women winning the right to vote in America thanks to the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I can’t imagine living in a country where women don’t have the right to vote. Think Saudi Arabia in the year 2010; that’s right, Saudi women cannot vote. The names of American suffragists, who endured beatings, jail and mental institutions, are familiar. To recognize just three—Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Sojourner Truth. For these reasons and others, I am leading the Boxer Team that has organized a fund-raising event for Senator Barbara Boxer on September 19 at the Hotel Zoso in Palm Springs. That event will be DWD’s September program. Senator Boxer has stated that she will always work for women’s—no, everyone’s rights—in America in the face of conservative obstructionism and Republicans’ wishes to deny or restrict many rights. (Think about the fights over Plan B birth control and universal health care…) I encourage DWD members and visitors to this site to join me in honoring the women (and men)—who ensured our right to vote—by pledging to: 1. Host a small house party to spread the word about Senator Boxer’s accomplishments while in office, and the scary positions of her opponent. Simply call me—I’ll get you an invitation list, provide materials for attendees, and speak at your event. These meetings are key to our getting the word out about the September 19 event, because a campaign policy prevents us from announcing it to news media. 2. Sign up today to attend the “main event.” Our goal is to have more than 400 people there on September 19 and raise more than $10,000. It’s important that we step up and help Barbara Boxer, who is running against a multi-millionaire! All event details, including instructions on how to register, are below on this home page. And, let me assure you, Senator Boxer has this event on her calendar! 3. Invite at least three friends to the event. 4. If you can’t attend, donate $25, $50 or $100 (as much as you can afford) to the Boxer campaign. Or buy tickets for friends. 5. And, of course…it is critical that we further honor the suffragists by voting in the November election.
Let’s keep our very special senator—Barbara Boxer—in Washington working for us. Sincerely
Marlene Levine, DWD President

Photos of the 2010 Ice Cream Social
At this summer's ice cream social, we discussed our activities in support of Senator Barbara Boxer's re-election campaign. These include a series of neighborhood gatherings and a major fund raiser set for September. In addition, we heard brief presentations by Mayor Steve Pougnet, our candidate for the 45th Congressional district; Sam Toles, a candidate for the Cathedral City Council; and Craig Borba and Karen Cornett, candidates for the Palm Springs Unified School Board.
Photos of June, 2010 Meeting and Birthday Celebration
On June 19, members and guests gathered at the home of Art Copelston for a celebration of the club's sixth birthday. In addition to enjoying champagne, cake and other goodies, those present were given a report on the Democratic State Convention and then had an extended discussion of plans for holding neighborhood events in support of Senator Barbara Boxer's election campaign.
