Photos of the May meeting

The May meeting featured a panel discussion concerning the impact of the state's current budget situation and education policies on our local school districts. The panel included Dr. Lorri McCune, Superintendent of Palm Springs Unified, Ricardo Medina, Superintendent of Caochella Valley Unified, and Dale Kinnear, a Riverside high school principal and candidate for Riverside County Superintendent of Schools. The panel was moderated by Program Chair, Priscilla Richardson.  The meeting was attended by Palm Springs School Board members, Justin Blake, a candidate for the California 37th Senate District and Gary Jeandron, a candidate for the Riverside County Board of Supervisors.

At the March meeting, which was held in the home of June Pariano, Julie Borstein spoke on the role of money in politics and its consequences for women candidates.  In addition, Hannah Smith discussed her experiences in the student government program held in Sacramento , and Connie Golds described the charitable clothing distribution services of the Desert Best Friend's Closet.

Steve Pougnet - Debbie Wasserman-Schultz Reception

A number of DWD members attended a fundraiser on March 5 for Palm Springs mayor, Steve Pougnet which was held at the home of Richard and Ro Olsson.  Pougnet was accompanied by Debbie Wasserman-Shultz who represents the Florida's 20th District in the U.S. House of Representatives and serves as Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee.  Both the Mayor and the Congresswoman discussed the growing support for Pougnet's campaign to replace Mary Bono Mack in our 45th Congressional District.

November '09 Meeting

The November meeting featured California Assemblymember Mary Salas who is a candidate for the 40th district seat in the California Senate.  A group of approximately twenty-five persons gathered at the home of Doreen Myhers to hear Ms. Salas give a very engaging and well thought out plan for her campaign to win the Senate seat.  Following her talk, club President Levine presented Ms. Salas with a donation from the Club in support of her election efforts.

2009 Volunteer of the Year


Doreen Myhers was recognized as our club's "Volunteer of the Year" at the third annual Gary H. Bosworth Awards Dinner. Sponsored by the Riverside County Central Committee, the dinner was held at the Morongo Casino on October 3, 2009.

The 2009 Installation of Officers

On January 25, we celebrated the inauguration of President Obama and the installation of our new officers.  The event was also marked by our award of travel funds to Hanna Smith, a La Quinta high school student, for participation in a student government program to be held in Sacramento.
